I realize I'm shouting into the void, but this just isn't Trigun. It clearly wants to be its own show with it's own characters, themes, tone, and story, but it also actively relies on knowledge of the OG so it doesn't have to spend time explaining things. It's a fanfiction. One of the better ones, like Dante's Inferno.

I agree. I have the OG manga's from 1995 to 1997 and the OG Trigun anime follows those manga with very little editorial license. This anime however seems to follow the 2004 Manga's as a retelling kinda like OG FMA and FMA brotherhood. Seems people get confused or just never read the original 1995-1997 run when referring to which followed "the manga" better.

From what I hear, this is more for old fans who has already read the manga or seen the first adaptation. They could have adapted the manga more faithfully then the last adaptation, since it changed several things. But decided to take a new approach.
